Supporting our Carers Team
We’re proud to have supported our Mersey Care Carers Engagement Team this week in hosting a special celebration event for young carers during Carers Week (10 - 15 June).
The event was sponsored by Radar Healthcare, who also provided items for goody bags for the young carers to take home.
Carers Week happens annually with the objective of raising awareness of 5.7 million unpaid carers across the UK, highlighting the many challenges they face in their daily lives.
Carers Week Celebration Events
The Carers Engagement Team hosted two events on 12 June to mark Carers Week and celebrate the roles carers play within families and our communities.
The event for young carers offered a chance to meet the Carers Engagement Team and join in with engagement activities that help to share the young carer voice.
Young carers also had the opportunity to participate in various arts and crafts activities, including creating a handprint mural. The event also featured games where they could win prizes and enjoy pizza, with one available for every guest.
Claire Dutton, Strategic Carer Engagement Lead for the Participation and Engagement Team said:
"This year’s theme for Carers Week is ‘Putting Carers on the Map’ and so, together with our friends at Radar Healthcare, we wanted to put on a special event to bring unpaid carers together in celebration and recognition of all they do."
Justine Abson, of Radar Healthcare, said:
“We’re delighted to support Mersey Cares Young Carers event this week. This event is more than just offering young carers a break; it enables us to recognise their incredible dedication, provides them with a space to recharge and create a community where they can connect with others who truly understand what they are going through. We’re excited to come together to show all young carers that they are valued and never alone.”
Carers Week 2024
The Carers Week campaign seeks to recognise the contribution carers make to families and communities throughout the UK and increase their visibility with employers, businesses, decision makers and communities.
This year, the theme is 'Putting Carers on the Map' – supporting them to be more visible, feel seen and respected and access the services and support that they need.
Micro commissioning project funded by NHS Charities Together
This Carers Week we are also excited to announce the launch of our new project to support unpaid carers in multi-ethnic and diverse communities. The 18-month project, funded by NHS Charities Together, will be delivered in partnership with Local Solutions and will focus on meaningful coproduction and development of our carer support services across local communities.
