A Heartfelt Thank You from Mersey Cares
As we celebrate the International Day of Charity—a day that underscores the power of giving and the profound impact charities can make—we’ve been reflecting on all we've achieved in the past year since launching the Mersey Cares website, and just 16 months since our small charity team began. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported us on this incredible journey.
Whether you’ve participated in a fundraising challenge, joined our NHS Big Tea party, made a donation or bought a raffle ticket, your support has been invaluable. Or maybe you've helped us to spread the word about our mission and what been up to via social media or by word of mouth.
Since our first charity fundraiser in August last year, we have raised over £30,000 in online donations and have seen projects brought to life, from support groups and community activities to ward enhancements and sensory gardens.
In recent months, we've funded the delivery of several wellbeing initiatives to support staff, including Wellbeing Through Wildlife, Wellbeing on Wheels, and the funding of the Zero Suicide Alliance's (ZSA) new Suicide Awareness training, which will launch on Suicide Prevention Day (10 September, 2024).
In the coming months we’ll also be able to share news about exciting new initiatives and transformations made possible through funding and donations; volunteering days, corporate sponsorship and the roll out of our Charity Champion programme.
We’re also thrilled to announce that we are putting the finishing touches to our first Mersey Cares charity impact report. This report will spotlight the significant strides we've made, showcasing our achievements and highlighting the positive impact we're having in our communities, as well as outline our plans for the future. Be sure to stay tuned for its release later this month! (Make sure you're following our social media accounts which are listed below).
In the meantime, if you want to know more about our charity, we invite you to have a good look around our website and learn more about the positive changes we’ve been able to make in the community. You’ll find information about our mission and objectives, impact stories, and opportunities to get involved. You can also read about our incredible Mersey Cares fundraisers who have gone above and beyond to support our communities, taking on challenges such as the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, Liverpool Half Marathon, abseiling down Liverpool Cathedral, and skydiving from 10,000 feet!

Thank you once again for your continued support — it means the world.
International Day of Charity, observed on September 5 every year, was established by the United Nations to highlight the importance of charitable activities and the significant impact that charitable organisations and individuals can make. The day serves as a reminder of the power of giving and encourages people around the world to engage in acts of kindness and support various causes.
The date was chosen to mark the anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa, a renowned humanitarian and founder of the Missionaries of Charity, who dedicated her life to helping the less fortunate.
