Reaching new heights! GRAHAM team abseils Anfield Stadium in support of Mersey Cares!

1 October 2024

The team are working towards a goal of £4,000 to support our mental health and community services

Thank you GRAHAM team for your incredible support!

We're delighted to share that over the weekend, a brave team from GRAHAM (the contractor building the new mental health facility at Mossley Hill) took on the ultimate challenge, by abseiling down Anfield Stadium to raise funds for our charity.

This follows the recent sponsorship of ten places on our annual Liverpool Cathedral Abseil, providing carers, NHS staff, and volunteers an opportunity to take on the challenge and raising an incredible £3,500.

GRAHAM is currently building a new state-of-the-art mental health facility via a building contract with developer, Liverpool and Sefton Health Partnership Ltd (LSHP), on land owned by Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust in Mossley Hill, Liverpool. The new inpatient facility will phase out traditional shared dormitory mental health wards to provide 80 single bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.

The Mossley Hill project exemplifies GRAHAM’s commitment to delivering significant social value, creating over £10 million in local economic impact.

Ahead of the event, James Ascroft, Project Manager at GRAHAM, said:

“The GRAHAM team, who are delivering the new mental health facility at Mossley Hill, are delighted to be challenging themselves by abseiling down Anfield Stadium to raise vital funds for The Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust Charity - Mersey Cares. The Charity plays a vital and growing role to serve the health needs of its communities – we are glad we can support such a worthy cause, helping the Charity ensure its specialist mental health and community services are delivered.”

The Anfield Abseil, requires fundraisers to embark upon a 100ft descent from the top of Liverpool Football Club's iconic main stand roof, which also happens to be one of the largest all-seater single stands in European football!

Ensuring nobody walked alone down the imposing wall featuring Liverpool Football Club's iconic club crest, 15 people, including staff members (as well as two young abseilers), took part, all dressed in the same matching T-shirts incorporating Mersey Cares and GRAHAM logos, designed specially for the event.

Speaking after the event, Andy Fellows, GRAHAM Team Captain said:

“It was an amazing and exhilarating experience - one the team will always remember. Raising money for Mersey Cares made the challenge even more special. The charity plays a vital role in serving the health needs of its communities. We’re glad we can support the charity with fundraising towards our goal of £4000, helping Mersey Cares ensure its specialist mental health and community services are delivered.”
