Supporting the ZSA's online training package
We’re delighted to share that Mersey Cares has successfully funded the redevelopment of the Zero Suicide Alliance’s (ZSA) Suicide Awareness Training. This initiative is an essential part the development of the ZSA’s complete online training package, backed by funding from NHS Charities Together.
The newly updated Suicide Awareness training has been shaped by valuable stakeholder feedback and launched on World Suicide Prevention Day, 2024. It includes:
- Updated introductory information with facts, figures and suicide warning signs
- Improved look and functionality
- Newly scripted and filmed scenarios with a buddy to coach you through different types of conversations.

Further training in development
The ZSA’s updated Suicide Awareness Training is just one of three e-learning training packages funded by NHS Charities Together. The others, which include the redevelopment of the ZSA’s existing Social Isolation Training and newly developed bespoke training for health and care staff, are currently in development and will be delivered throughout 2025. The goal is to educate, empower, and inform individuals to support suicide prevention and raise awareness.
Supporting the Zero Suicide Alliance
More than 6,000 people in the UK die by suicide every year – and one in five people have had thoughts of suicide.
Our charity supports the ZSA as part of our Trust’s Zero Suicides ambition. Mersey Cares is committed to supporting the ZSA in developing the tools, resources, and training necessary for individuals to gain the essential skills and confidence to engage in conversations with those struggling with suicidal thoughts.
By donating just £8 you could help us to fund 50 people to take the ZSA’s potentially life-saving suicide awareness and prevention training, teaching them what to look out for and how to start a conversation with someone they are worried about.
ZSA is funded via Mersey Care NHS Charity. Any donations made to ZSA are used for suicide awareness and prevention work undertaken by the ZSA.
